Intro
A bit about me
Welcome to the SorrellMD substack! I’m Luke Sorrell MD, FACP - board certified internist, currently practicing concierge ultra precision medicine in Dallas, TX. I began my career as a practicing as a hospitalist at the height of COVID19 in the summer of 2020. It was quite a time to enter the medical field as a full fledged physician. Being thrown into having to care for some of the sickest patients in the hospital, many on the brink of death was not for the faint of heart. It was a challenging time but the lessons I learned and the skills I solidified were invaluable. As a hospitalist I learned the art of listening, caring, and healing - and these stick with me even today.
Hospitalist medicine was great for a time but I knew my ultimate calling was outside of the hospital in the clinic where I could build more meaningful relationships with patients. I made the transition to outpatient medicine after about a year as a hospitalist and began working as a PCP with a large health system in Dallas. This was a welcome change. Being able to form longitudinal relationships with my patients and get to know many of them on a deeper level was so meaningful. It was challenging though. Only having about 15 minutes to see someone, try to connect and chat with them, review all their medical issues and formulate a plan for everything (not to mention address anything about their diet and lifestyle) - and then document everything to the nth degree - was exhausting. I knew that I didn’t want to be the doc that just prescribes a “pill for everything” but the time constraints (and sometimes the expectations from the patients) forces you to start to practice this way. Don’t get me wrong - pills can be great, even life changing, but the practice of reaching for the easy fix without asking or searching for the deeper issue…this is not how we should practice medicine.
About a year into my career as a PCP I had a patient come and see me who worked for Genova Diagnostics. Because she was an employee she was able to get free testing done if she got a physcian’s approval. She asked if I would sign off on a gut and micronutrient test. I said sure - I was interested in what these new tests could reveal. What I saw blew me away. I had no idea we could test a this deep of a level and this lead me down a path I couldn’t go back from. I dove into the fields of functional, integrative, precision and longevity medicine. What I saw was eye opening. We can do so much more for our patients!
This led me to my current practice in Dallas at Gladden Longevity. Here we practice what I like to call ultra precision medicine. We go to every available length to understand what is going on with our clients. Deep lab and biometric testing with genetics, micronutrients, hormones, advanced thyroid analysis, toxins, gut, food sensitivity, telomeres, NAD+, senescent cells, immune function, mitochondrial function, biological age tests, advanced cancer screenings, advanced brain health analysis and Alzheimer’s screening and advanced cardiovascular analysis and screening - and more. Always adding new things are the field changes. Always staying on the cutting edge.
In subsequent posts I hope to share more of what we do, cool insights we have, exciting new studies and practical tips and insights all from the lens of precision and longevity medicine. I hope this can be helpful to both phsycians and non physicians alike who are searching to know more about their health and live a long and healthy life.
Here’s to better health,
Luke Sorrell MD FACP
